Mount Your Thingy: A Guide to Wall Bliss and Avoiding Sticky Situations

Magnet Magic: The Secret Behind the Hold

Your Thingy comes with a built-in superhero – a hidden magnet and a not so hidden magnet! But like any hero, they need a trusty sidekick – the spacer ring. This ring keeps the magnet that sticks to the wall, at the perfect distance out of the center hole in order to stick firmly to your wall when you go to place it. Please ensure that the spacer ring stays there until your Thingy is mounted.

Mounting Mission: Easy as 1, 2, Thingy!

  1. Find Your Perfect Spot: Imagine where your Thingy will shine. Make a mental masterpiece.
  2. Peel and Place: Carefully remove the plastic cover (the one labeled “WALL SIDE”) from the magnet. Hold your Thingy with two hands, then gently hover it over your chosen spot. Slowly move it back until the magnet sticks to the wall.
  3. Press with Purpose: Give your Thingy a firm but gentle press in the center for about 10 seconds.
  4. The Great Reveal: Time to detach your Thingy! The spacer ring should fall out, leaving the magnet on the wall. Now, press firmly on the magnet itself with your thumb or palm for 30-60 seconds.
  5. Patience is a Virtue: Resist the urge to hang anything on the magnet just yet! Let the adhesive work its magic for a few hours. For heavier pieces, wait 24 hours for the strongest hold. Lighter items can wait 30-60 minutes.

Metal Marvels: Mounting on Magnetic Surfaces

You can skip the wall mounting and stick your Thingy (with the plastic “WALL SIDE” cover still on!) directly onto any magnetic surface like a fridge. But remember, this means removing the spacer ring. But save yourself some headache and avoid future magnet-hole meltdowns, put a piece of masking tape or plastic wrap between the hole and the magnet before letting the magnet be in the hole without its spacer. This will give you a way to remove the magnet in the future, if you ever want to put it on a wall somewhere (and keep the spacer, you’ll need it).

Unlocking the Magic: Your Thingy’s NFC Chip

Your Thingy isn’t just a pretty face (or picture)! It has a hidden superpower – an NFC chip! Here’s how to use it:

  1. The Power of Proximity: Grab your modern smartphone (with NFC enabled – check your phone’s settings if unsure).
  2. Tap That Thingy: Simply hover your phone’s backside over the center front area of your Thingy. It’s NOT a QR code, so no camera app needed.
  3. Instant Gratification: Your phone should recognize the NFC chip and whisk you away to the exact product page for your Thingy where your guest or new fan can buy your exact Thingy for themselves (or any other Thingy).

Sharing the Thingy Love: Referral RewardsThe magic of Thingys goes beyond your walls! Anyone who scans your Thingy’s NFC chip can easily purchase one for themselves. But on top of that, when they sign up for a free account, they earn discount points and YOU earn discount points (after their first purchase). Read more about our Scan Points program here.

Uh Oh, Stuck Magnet? Don’t Panic!

Did you fumble the spacer and now your magnet’s stuck in the hole? Fear not, Thingy hero! Here are your rescue options:

  • Magnet Mastermind: Use a stronger magnet or a large metal surface to pull the stuck magnet out.
  • Thin Tool Triumph: Slide a very thin object between the magnet and the hole to pry it loose.
  • Sticky Situation (Last Resort!): Peel the plastic cover off the sticky part (the “WALL SIDE” label), but remember, this compromises the adhesive for wall mounting. Contact us at support@1000thingys.com for a replacement magnet (they’re super affordable!).

Now that your Thingy is mounted and its secrets revealed, it’s time to show it off! Let the world discover your Thingy and share the love.

Happy Thingy’ing!
